Lactoferrin(LF) is a multifunctional protein ofthe transferr in family. It is a globular glycoprotein with a molecular mass of about 80kDa that is widely represented invarious secretory fluids, suchasmilk, saliva, tears, and nasal secretions. Lactoferrin can bepurified from milk or pr oduce drecombinantly. Human colostrum has the highest concentration,followed by humanmilk, then cow milk(150mg/mL).

Lactoferrinis one of the components of the immune system of the body;it has antimicrobial activity(bacteriocide,fungicide) and is part of the innate defense,mainly at mucosae.
